Staff Software Engineer leads design and development of Canva's backend experimentation platform, enabling teams to safely run A/B tests, measure outcomes, and automate analysis.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney, with a second campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, & Adelaide. You have flexibility in how and where you work â whether thatâs from one of our spaces, from home, or a mix of both. This role is remote-friendly within Australia, so you can choose the setup that empowers you and your team to do your best work.
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, gâday, mabuhay, kia ora,äœ ć„œ, hallo, vĂtejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and youâre probably keen to find out whatâs on offer, so weâll get straight to the point.
What youâd be doing in this role:
Canva is making experimentation a much bigger part of how we build and ship product.
At our scale, shipping changes and watching what happens isnât enough. Teams need to know whether a change actually improved the product and catch changes that unexpectedly hurt important guardrails such as retention or application performance.
This Staff Software Engineer will provide senior technical leadership across the backend systems behind Canvaâs experimentation programme.
Youâll help evolve the platform teams use to set up experiments, target users, expose variants and measure outcomes in the safest and most intuitive way possible. Weâre moving towards a platform that does more than report results. It should reinforce good experimentation practices, surface signals faster and alert early when things go wrong.
With the advent of AI, weâre also looking at how we can automate more of the analysis process to help our teams learn faster and iterate.
Youâll take ownership of significant technical problems, work with senior leaders across Canva and help shape where the platform should go next by working with the teams building the platform.
Youâre probably a match:
Weâd love to hear from you if you fit one or more of these. You donât need to meet all of them, but the more the better and if you join the team, weâre invested in helping you grow.
Experience:
Backend platform engineering: Youâve built backend systems or platforms that other engineers depend on, and understand what changes when your software becomes part of somebody elseâs critical path.
Experimentation exposure at scale: Youâve built, operated or worked deeply with experimentation, A/B testing, feature-management or progressive-rollout systems in a large engineering environment.
Technical leadership: Youâve taken ambiguous engineering problems, formed a technical direction and helped other engineers move towards an outcome.
Driving adoption: Youâve built internal platforms or capabilities and understand that the technology only succeeds when other teams trust and use it.
Technical knowledge:
Backend and distributed systems: Strong software engineering fundamentals, with experience designing reliable backend systems and reasoning about scalability, availability, consistency and failure modes.
Data systems: Enough familiarity with data engineering, analytics engineering or large-scale data processing to understand how experimentation data is generated, moved and consumed.
Experimentation concepts: Familiarity with experiment assignment, targeting, variants, feature flags, metrics, guardrails and progressive rollout.
Language depth: Java is our primary language and would be useful, but it isnât a hard requirement. At Staff level, weâre more interested in strong engineering fundamentals and your ability to transfer them between languages.
Nice to haves:
Youâve built this before: Direct experience designing or building experimentation, A/B testing, feature-management or rollout infrastructure â either inside a large technology company or for a platform vendor.
Data crossover: A background spanning software engineering and data science, data engineering or analytics engineering.
Feature flags: Experience building feature flagging, user targeting, progressive rollout or automated guardrail systems.
Statistical intuition: You donât need to be a data scientist, but being comfortable enough with experimentation and statistics to work closely with one will be valuable.
About the Group & Team:
This role sits within Rollout Insights, the subgroup responsible for experimentation at Canva.
The team builds shared experimentation capabilities used across the company.
Engineers use the platform to configure and launch experiments. Data scientists use the resulting data to understand impact. Product teams use those insights to decide what should roll out, change or stop.
The team already brings together software engineering and senior data science expertise, which matters because the hardest problems sit across both disciplines.
Youâll also collaborate broadly across Canvaâs engineering and data science organisations, including with senior technical leaders who depend on the platform.
Experimentation is now a major company priority, so demand for the teamâs capabilities is growing quickly. Thereâs already a platform to build from, with plenty of important technical work still ahead.
Whatâs in it for you?
Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but youâll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.
Hereâs a taste of whatâs on offer:
Check out lifeatcanva.com for more info.
Other stuff to know
We see AI as a powerful amplifier of creativity and technology at Canva. Weâre evolving how we assess AI skills in our Technology hiring experience â youâll tackle interactive, real-time challenges that reflect the kind of work we do. In some interviews, you may also be asked to solve a problem using an AI tool to show how you approach challenges with tech by your side.
We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture.
When you apply, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process. We celebrate all types of skills and backgrounds at Canva, so even if you donât feel like your skills quite match whatâs listed above â we still want to hear from you!
Please note that interviews are conducted virtually.

Director oversees regulatory compliance, supply chain risk management, tech transfers, and quality documentation for beauty product lines across multiple markets.
About Kitsch
Kitsch is a bootstrapped, female and minority-owned global beauty brand built on the belief that great design and great values arenât mutually exclusive. From hair accessories to sleep and wellness, we create products that make people feel good â and weâve grown to $400M+ in annual revenue by staying true to that mission. We move fast, we care deeply about craft, and weâre looking for people who feel the same way.
The Role
This is one of the most structurally important roles on the Kitsch product development team â not because it is the most visible, but because it is the one that keeps everything else from breaking. As Director of Regulatory & Tech Transfer, you will own the regulatory and supply infrastructure that keeps every Consumables SKU across Haircare, Body, and Fragrance compliant, quality-certified, and never dependent on a single source. You will be the person who qualifies the backup before the backup is needed, who catches the compliance gap before the delisting hits, and who makes sure every product we launch is as buttoned-up behind the scenes as it is on shelf. This role brings regulatory decision-making fully in-house â replacing external consultants as the primary compliance authority across EU/UK, Health Canada, and FDA frameworks. If you love owning something that genuinely matters, moving without being pushed, and building systems that outlast any single project, we want to hear from you.

Principal engineer designs and implements secure smart contracts and libraries on Solana, setting technical direction for OpenZeppelin's SVM practice with AI-native development tools.
OpenZeppelin is the security standard onchain finance is built on. Founded in 2015, our mission is to accelerate the worldâs transition to an open financial system, built on open standards and secured by rigorous research.
Our open-source Contract Libraries have facilitated over $35 trillion in onchain value and are used by 10 of the top 10 tokenized money market funds and 9 of the top 10 stablecoins by market cap.
We combine AI-native security tooling with deep research and a decade of audit expertise to support leading institutions and crypto-native teams shaping the next generation of digital assets like DTCC, Fidelity, Coinbase, Uniswap, Aave, the Ethereum Foundation, and many more across the full secure development lifecycle.
Please note: Always refer to OpenZeppelinâs official job page for the most accurate information about our open roles, as we have seen multiple third party job sites posting inaccurate information.
OpenZeppelin is the security partner of choice for the most important protocols in Web3. Our Secure Development team sits at the intersection of building and breaking: we design, implement, and harden production-grade libraries and smart contracts for leading projects across EVM, Starknet, Stellar/Soroban, Arbitrum Stylus, Aptos, and beyond, often as an embedded extension of the clientâs engineering team.
We work the way the rest of the industry will five years from now. Every developer on the team is a fully AI-native engineer, supported by outstanding internal AI tooling built for every phase of secure development. Developers own their workstreams end-to-end â agents amplify their effectiveness, and peers, security researchers, and external auditors provide rigorous review on every piece of work that ships.
We are looking for a Principal Solana Developer to set the technical direction for our work on the SVM. This is not a seat on an existing Solana team: you are the person who defines what OpenZeppelinâs Solana practice looks like, in the open and under your own name, so your reputation compounds with ours.
Your first focus is our confidential computing track on Solana: porting onchain fully homomorphic encryption primitives to the SVM runtime, designing the confidential token standard and the SDK patterns on top of it, and building the developer abstractions that make it usable. It runs into 2027, it is public, and it is coordinated directly with the Solana Foundation. The open design questions are yours to own: access control list storage cost, program upgradability and governance, and how to express confidential DeFi flows idiomatically on Solana rather than transliterating them from EVM.
Beyond that engagement, you are the SVM technical lead across our portfolio: shaping how we scope and staff Solana audits, contributing to our open source libraries and tooling, and giving the security research team the depth they need when a program lands on their desk.
Our interview process is designed to be fast (weâre targeting ~30 days from first call to offer) while still giving both sides a clear âyes.â The full process consists of:
Please let us know if you require any accommodations for the interview process, and weâll do our best to provide assistance.
At OpenZeppelin, we are an equal opportunity employer and we value different perspectives. We are committed to building a diverse workforce. This includes but is not limited to gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, national origin and other characteristics that make each one of us unique. In this uniqueness, we find the most value. Come join us!
As part of OpenZeppelinâs recruitment process, we may use automated tools, including artificial intelligence, to assist in reviewing applications and assessing candidate qualifications. These tools are used to support our People team by identifying relevant skills and experience, and are not used to make decisions solely by automated means. All hiring decisions involve human review. Any personal data provided as part of your application will be processed in accordance with OpenZeppelinâs Data Privacy Notice.
If you have questions about this recruitment process or would like to request human review of your application, please contact us at talent@openzeppelin.com.

Guide and lead industry direction to ensure Chainguard customer needs are best met by emerging standards and norms.
